Woodville Rolls to Opening Win

Emily Huston and Woodville opened the 2011-12
season with a win over Decatur Heritage Tuesday.

There wasn't much suspense to the Woodville girls basketball team's season opener.

The Panthers outscored visiting Decatur Heritage 24-7 in the second quarter, sparking Woodville (1-0) to a 57-27 victory Tuesday night.

Woodville led just 11-8 after one quarter but enjoyed a 35-15 halftime advantage. It led 47-18 going to the fourth quarter.

"I was really impressed with the girls' defensive pressure," said Woodville coach Joey Swinford. "We played much more intense than last year."

Emily Huston had 16 points to go along with eight rebounds and seven steals for the Panthers, who returned three starters from last year's Class 1A Area 15 championship team. Tristin Loudermilk contributed 14 points and five rebounds to the Woodville cause while Baylee Webb had eight points. Kelsi Sisk chipped in seven points, four assists and three steals.

The Panthers return to the court this evening at 5:15 p.m. against 3A Plainview at Pisgah High School.
