the basketball during Woodville's win Thursday night
The Woodville girls basketball team had all kinds of trouble with Collinsville last season.
But Thursday night, the Panthers reminded everyone this isn't last season.
Woodville built an early lead and held off Collinsville for a 59-53 victory at WHS.
The Panthers lost three times to Collinsville a year ago, dropping a two close regular season games — one in double-overtime — and falling to CHS at home in the Northeast Sub-regional round.
"It's a pretty sweet win," Swinford said, referring to last year's troubles with CHS. "It makes me feel a lot better. It shows me that we can play with anybody and can be competitive in 1A if we continue to improve."
Woodville (3-1) built a 17-12 lead after one quarter and was in front 28-18 at halftime and 45-37 entering the fourth quarter.
Emily Huston finished with 18 points, six steals and five rebounds for Woodville. Baylee Webb had 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists while Tristin Loudermilk added 11 points and Kelsi Sisk chipped in seven.
Kristen Ford had a game-high 33 points for Collinsville.
