Fighting for the BallWOODVILLE — North Jackson had a decided rebounding advantage against Woodville Monday night in the quarterfinals of the 2010 Jackson County Tournament.But it was Woodville that came up with the game's biggest rebound.
With her team trailing by one, Woodville sophomore Emily Huston rebounded a teammate's missed free throw and made the game-winning basket with 44 seconds remaining in the No. 5-seeded Panthers' 46-45 win over No. 4 North Jackson.
Woodville coach Joey Swinford said it was ironic how his team won."North Jackson has very good rebounders," he said. "That's their strength and they really (dominated) the boards. All we could do was to hope to rebound with them."Huston did her part, pulling down 15 rebounds to go with her 15 points. "Emily wanted that game," Swinford said. "She's got the heart of a champion. We teach them that a big part of rebounding is wanting the ball, and that's why she got that rebound."
Woodville (13-7) advanced to play top-seeded Section in the semifinals Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at WHS.
