win over defending Class 1A Area 15 champion

There looks to be a changing of the guard in Class 1A Area 15 softball.
The Woodville Panthers opened area play with a 7-0 victory over two-time defending area champion Athens Bible Thursday at WHS.
Woodville (4-1, 1-0) was the area runner-up last season, but seemed intent on changing that this season.
"This was a great confidence builder because Athens Bible has dominated the area in recent years," said Woodville coach Franklin Pritchett.
"This is a great group of girls that made it to regionals last year. Our goal is to get to the state tournament this year. I believe if they will continue to work hard and play well we have a chance to make it. We will have to play well again next week with big [area] games against PRV and Skyline."
Northwest Shoals signee Chelsea Collins pitched a complete game for Woodville, finishing with 12 strikeouts.
Meanwhile, the Panthers scored three runs in the fourth to break open a scoreless game, then salted the victory away thanks to a four-run sixth.
Alee Snodgrass finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Panthers at the plate. Krislon Thompson also drove in two runs for Woodville, which got seven defensive outs made by infielder Emily Huston.
